We hope you enjoy looking at these photos and getting a flavour of the fun learning that has continued through the winter months. Early on in the term, the pancake flipping competition was a very enjoyable way to raise money and World Book Day was great fun, too. We all felt very cosy in our pjs and dressing gowns as we celebrated reading and the world of adventure captured in books. Congratulations to Kya for winning the Y4 ‘Extreme Reading’ competition!

We’ve had a fantastic start to the new year. There have been several highlights. Firstly, we made cookies and learnt how to cream and sieve to make the most delicious produce possible! In computing we learnt to appreciate the internet as a network of networks which need to be kept secure. We were given opportunities to explore the world wide web and discover how to access, add and create different information. Our Science topic has linked in neatly with our Geography topic as we’ve been focussing on how states of matter change when exposed to different temperatures. We saw that this could lead to evaporation and condensation which are two of the most important processes in the water cycle.
As the weather has been improving we’ve been lucky enough to put our hockey skills to the test! We’ve been learning how to control the ball, pass accurately, tackle and work as a team. We picked it up really quickly and had some exciting games in the last week of the half term. We hope you enjoy looking at the photos of some of the activities we enjoyed in school last term.

Y4 Final Art Pieces
Year 4 have enjoyed another action packed term! There have been several highlights, including re-creating the journey of our poo in science (best not to ask!), learning to read music and play glockenspiels, playing finger maths and using playing cards to help improve our mental maths (ask your child how to play!). Another highlight was when a local archaeologist came to visit and share his wealth of local knowledge. It was fascinating to discover what used to be here in Prestbury during Roman times.
Special events we have enjoyed this term include wearing odd socks to celebrate what makes us all unique during Anti-Bullying Week and watching England’s first World Cup match against Iran.
We were introduced to a new Para-Olympic sport called Goalball where teams are blindfolded and have to listen carefully for the bells inside the ball in order to stop it going in the goal. We picked it up really quickly and had a good time trying a very different and calmer sport. We’ve also started learning about Hinduism and the way Hindus interpret their faith in modern times, as well as the digestive system and the functions of the organs that help us to process food and last but not least the Anglo Saxons invasion of Britain.

What a fantastic start Year Four have had to the school year! There have been several highlights, including a really fun, educational visit to the Corinium museum in Cirencester. We got to dress up as Romans, play Roman games, see genuine Roman mosaics and other artefacts, re-create Anglo-Saxon burials and learn about how we know about the past. Our fun, investigative history learning continued in school - including the playground when learning about Roman roads.
Another highlight was the STEM workshop where we investigated the science of basic electrical circuits before putting it into practice by building ‘buzzer’ games. The children worked with great enthusiasm and focus, demonstrating resilience and a positive learning attitude. Our visitor was very impressed!
We hope you enjoy looking at the photos of some of the activities we enjoyed in school last term.

Y4 Hindu Visitor
As part of their RE topic – What does it mean to be a Hindu in Britain today? – Y4 enjoyed a visit from Daxa Mehta. Daxa bought in lots of Hindu artefacts and pictures to help consolidate the children’s learning about Hindu worship and practices. The children had prepared (and impromptu) questions which Daxa was able to answer from personal experience and beliefs.
